Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory

Native culture and history are alive and well in this unique shoreline community of Mohawks.

Nestled in the picturesque southeasterly corner of Hastings County, Tyendinaga took its name from Joseph Brant, a noted Mohawk Chief whose Indian name was Thayendinagea.

Visitors will find numerous antique, craft and pottery shops. Landmarks include historic plaques, a cairn at the landing site, the Christ Church, an airport with history dating prior to WWI, and much more. Every August, the Tyendinaga Mohawk Pow-wow takes place, bringing visitors from far and wide.
